HAUL: L.A. Colors, NYX and Landmark Brushes

YES! I know! I wrote previously that I am saving up for Korea. But I am  here again with another haul! And this time, all items are below 150 PESOS!! YAAAY to bargain hunters like me! I haven’t found time to review other products from my previous haul. Again, I am making my to-review list a little bit longer. So many products to review, so little time!

Quality brushes are a must-have for any make up junkie. But who wouldn’t resist these fluffy ones! They are incredibly cheap. Although, you know that they won’t last as long as high quality brushes do – but what could go wrong with 50 and 90 pesos right? (That’s around $1 - $2 only!!) They have soft bristles and long handles which I love! – Black with a little shimmer. The eye brushes shed off quickly and the other one is already damaged though (I should have opened it from it’s wrapper to check before I started buying it). Good thing I can fix it with Super Glue.

My NYX round lipstick in Indian Pink has a story. I really wanted this shade ever since I picked it out for my friend to buy. Last Easter, I saw my favorite bazaar stall (Prettygoddes) which is where I purchase all my round lippies. I asked for the shade Indian pink but they didn’t have it on stock. A few days after, I checked the stall they had on another mall (At Trinoma, PoP Culture) again it was out of stock! Someone just bought the last piece a few minutes before I asked. I got so frustrated because I really wanted the shade and my mind was already set on buying that particular shade only. I went back after eating dinner and found out that there was still one left for me! Turns out, the previous buyer gave it back and chose another shade. Boy was I so happy! This, by far, is my favorite stall. They have an accommodating and friendly staff, and they have a lot of NYX items to choose from.

Lastly, I bought a few stuff from L.A. Colors. I was able to find a retractable lip pencil here and a pressed powder, concealer and a wet to dry make up. The shade is too light for my complexion (Wet to dry make up). They don’t have testers so you really won’t be able to see the swatches in the skin… I’ll save my words on their separate review. But I give 2 thumbs up for the lip pencils. They are easy to use and glides well on the lips. Plus, sharpening is not required!

How to: Massage Your Face (The Muji way)

Facial massages are very beneficial. They improve blood circulation, tones down skin, releases toxins, enlivens your complexion, opens pores (thus, dirt that is clogged can be removed easily), lessens wrinkles and gives a smoother and supple skin. Another good thing about it, is that, it is all natural - no injections, no medications etc.

These pictures are from a brochure that Muji (That Japanese  retail store that sells furniture to note pads) gives out and I found them very helpful and interesting - I couldn't help but share!

****Treat your skin with a special facial massage every now and then. On a clean and clear skin, apply Moisturizing Lotion, Cream, Massage Oils for a good facial massage. Massage before putting on your makeup or before bedtime.

1. NECK - Use palms of your hands and massage with upward motions from top to bottom to stretch out the wrinkles from your neck.

2. CHEEKS - In soft circular motions, massage your cheeks starting from your chin. Press your temples gently to finish off.

 3. AROUND THE MOUTH AND NOSE - Use the fingertips to do slow lifts on the size of your nose and around your mouth. Go from top to bottom for the outer nose line.

4. AROUND THE EYE -  Create small circular motions going around the eye area. Press the bottom eye brow point  them   your temples at the very end.

5. CORNER OF THE EYES - Do an up-down motion alternately.
6. FOREHEAD - Start from the center of your forehead down to the outer eye area, sides of your head.

7. FACE - From the center of your face to the outer portions, imagine making a line while pressing your skin gently. Press in the 3 points on your face.

8. FACE LINE - Use the back of your fingers and lightly tap the faceline points.

9. NECK - Start from the bottom of the ears to the collarbone to the end of the shoulders. Imagine moving gently along this line.

"My Favorite Tints"

"Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite TINTS"

I am trying my best to sing like Maria of the Sound of Musice there. Okay! So, I will be writing about my favorite TINTS! I am a fan of cheek tints/stains for a lot of reasons and here are some of them:

1. They give you that natural flushed look.
2. I usually have allergies that cause tiny red blotches on my cheeks and these stains blend well with it.
3. They last more than powdered or cream blushes.
4. I love the outdoors and these products don't wear down even if I get all sweaty from running and playing my sport.

My top four: 1. benetint 2. the body shop 3. tarte (flush) 4. ellana (amethyst)
TOP 4: Ellana lip/cheek stain
This is a local brand which can only be bought on bazaars (if your lucky) or online: www.ellanaminerals.com , they also have little stalls near SM Supermarket (Marikina and Megamall) during the weekends. One thing I like about this (compared with the next stains that will be mentioned) is how blendable (if there is such word) it is. It has a gel like consistency which does not dry out quickly compared to others. It comes in a pump bottle which is good for my OC-ness (obsessive compulsiveness) when it comes to make up. You just need one dot, like a pin's head and that would last for long. One great thing about this product is, it come's close to how long my TOP 1 stays on the cheeks. And it's very cheap too! A10:1 ratio of this vs. my top tint in terms of how much it costs. I find this too red on the cheeks though. Not as natural as the one's I will mention later. But if you master the art of applying cheek tints, you'll get by with this one. One thing I noticed, it leaves a few blotches the longer it stays on your cheeks.  (Or could it be because of my allergies)

Price: P 180.00 around $4.00 only
Weight: 20ml

The Good:
- It is very cheap!
- It has aloe vera extract which moisturizes your cheeks rather than just prettifying it alone.
- It is easy to blend and it does not dry quickly
- HYPOALLERGENIC! This product is good for those with sensitive skin as some find cheek stains too harsh. Most of the cheek stains I know contain alcohol. (Phenoxyethanol)

The Bad:
- I find it hard to control the pump bottle. I always over-pump it leaving a lot of the stain to waste.
- The packaging does not come with a cap, you only twist the pump to the right to lock it. I experienced a number of pump spills in my make up purse since I forget to twist it all the time.

TOP 3: Tarte in Flush
If only I don't possess oily skin, this might be on the 2nd spot. This comes in a fat lip gloss like case. It has a citrus smell which makes it addicting while applying on the face. This has the best scent in my opinion as compared to my other 3 favorites. It's good for traveling since it has a balm like consistency = NO SPILLS. But since it's always humid here in the Philippines, this doesn't work well all the time. I use it during the "ber" months where it's cold and the skin is dryer than the usual. The application can get quite messy. You can use a sponge, or apply it directly but I prefer using my finger tips and swiping it on the cheeks. Sponges absorb a lot of the product and I'm very frugal when it comes to my make up (HAHA!) At first the product comes out oily, but let it dry for a few minutes and it will blend along with your skin. It is tricky though!

I find the color too light, it takes around 4-5 swipes just to achieve a noticeable flush. This would work well with lighter skin tones.

Price: $30.00
Weight: 28.4g

The Good:
- My favorite scent is in this little package and it (the scent) lasts a little longer.
- Like my 4th favorite, it blends easily due to its balm like consistency.
- It contains a lot of product in it. It goes a long way.

The Bad:
- It requires a lot of application for girls with a dark skin tone like me.
- The balm forms small residues upon application.
- Too expensive, considering the number of times you have to apply the product just to get the certain flush you want.
- It does not double as a lip stain.
- I get a hard time with it's push up packaging. I wish they produce a twist up package like the sample sizes.

TOP 2: Lip and Cheek Stain by The Body Shop
Apologies for my bad copy of this product. As you can see from the 1st picture, there is almost nothing left in this tiny tube. This is my 6th or 7th tube, and it was the third cheek stain that I discovered. (The first two didn't make it to the cut to be included in this entry) I used this almost every day, during the first half of my college years. Thank God for the store's frequent sales - it was only during those times that I get to purchase and re-purchase one. ( I never bought them on it's original price haha). It comes in a shade lighter than my #1 tint!! This stays longer than Tarte's Flush but shorter than Ellana and Benetint. I love how compact this is and how easy it is to apply. You can do it on the go. Spills don't occur that much since, the tube has a rubber stopper on the opening. This is the lightest (in terms of weight) among the three. But it comes closest to the color of my Top 1. Like Tarte, it takes around 4 applications to get the color you desire. It's more viscous than Benetint but not as close as compared to Ellana.

Price: P795.00 around &19.00
Weight: 8ml

The Good:
- It's tiny enough to fit in your pocket/purse.
- It goes with an applicator that makes swiping easy.
- It doubles as a lip stain.

The Bad:
- It doesn't last that long. It stays around 4-5 hours and the product won't be visible in the cheeks any longer.
- It doesn't smell as good as my top 3 and 1.
- For some reason, it hurts when I use this as a lip stain. And it dries my lips so much. Even if I layer it with lip balm or lip gloss.

TOP 1: Benetint by benefit
This by far is my favorite! It gives out a sheer rose shade on the cheeks, and true enough, (as it's packaging say's) it is the sexiest flush you can get from a bottle. Among the 4 of the product's I posted  this stays on the longest. It is made of carmine rose petals, and that explains the sweet odor it expels.

To give you a little history, Benetint was the first product of Benefit created around 1976 by Jean and Jane Ford. It is famously known as the "nipple tint" because the product was originally made for an exotic dancer who was in need of one. So that explains why the bottle say's: "Innocent yet 'provocative', our rose tinted cheek stain is see through color that 'endures it all... even in the thralls of passion'." (Funny transition from nipple to cheek stain right?)

Price: $29.00 but it is around P1800 here in the Philippines
Weight: 12.5 ml

The Good:
- It stays longer than the rest of the tints I know and it stays on for a good 7 - 9 hours for me.
- It has a very nice smell (although this might appall others who prefer unscented cosmetics)
- It doesn't fade out easily on water or even SWEAT.
- It suits all skin types and tones.
- It doubles as a lip stain too (although I hardly use it as one)

The Bad:
- The packaging is too plain, considering the fact that it costs almost $30.
- Also, still under the packaging area - it is more prone to spills. I don't get to bring this with me during travels =( Although Benefit released a "pocket pal" edition, I find it too impractical to purchase one.
- And another one, still from the packaging - the little brush that comes with it does not reach the bottom of the bottle. And, since you dip and use the brush and dip it back when you close it, it makes it prone to the spread of certain strains of bacteria which in turn diminishes the shelf life of the product.
- I find it too expensive. It cost's as much as 3 tints from The Body Shop or 10 bottles of Ellana. I have dark skin, and I put around 3 - 5 swipes just to achieve the color I want, so this 12.5 ml bottle would be gone in  a couple of months if I use it every day.

HAUL: e.l.f., marionaud, carmex, IN2IT and ever bilena

Since I am saving up for a make up haul in Korea, I only made pocket friendly purchases this week.

IN2IT's waterproof eyebrow colour - P299
e.l.f. Contouring and Bronzing powder - P249
Marionaud's Fan Brush - P199
Carmex Moisturising Lip Balm - P108
(It comes with a free retractable lip balm that I failed to include in the picture)
Ever Bilena's Blush in Earth and Everyday - P150 each
Ever Bilena's Advance Concealer in Velvet Nude - P99 (It was on SALE!)

I've heard praises for these products besides the fact that they are all under P300! I will be posting a review of some of these along with more pictures and the swatches as well so stay tuned! =)

My first traincase!

After finishing my boards (which was around the first week of March) I couldn't contain myself from thoughts on make up and doing it for others. I am only self taught, and while I save up for a professional make up school, I work as a part time Clinical Lab Scientist (I am not looking for a permanent job yet since I'm booked for a vacation in Korea) and I do little make up gigs as well.

It came timely that a friend asked me to do her make up for a Rajo Laurel fashion show. We also had a wedding to attend to the following week so the need for proper make up storage came in mind. Keeping all my make up on separate "TUPPERWARES" gave myself the thought of buying my own traincase.

I started looking around Trinoma and none of what I saw allowed my little budget to purchase one. So, I went home and did a little research and found a train case mecca at - where else but the very busy QUIAPO! The store had a catalog with lots of train cases - yes! even the one's with LED bulbs. I gave myself a P2500 budget for this search only to find out that the cheapest traincase they had costs less than P2000.

The big stall contained other make up tools like sponges, false eye lashes, make up palettes and the like. They also had tons of hair products. (The sales lady told me that they supply products for a popular salon chain here in the Philippines).

Okay! So back to the traincase.

Dimensions: 260x160x175 (mm)

Pro's:
- The casing is sturdy and hard.
- The layers come with a plastic covering, which allows easy clean ups in case of minor spills.
- The interior is covered with an all black cloth and the stitching is nicely done.
- It has 4 layers, you don't really have to put dividers on it.
- It come's with a lock.
- It's VERY CHEAP! People online sell it around 2500, but I got it for a lesser value!

Con's:
- It's heavy. Add your make up and it becomes a burden to carry. For people who are not blessed with a healthy spine (like me), I suggest you buy one with a trolley. But then again, I only have a thin collection of make up so this will do - for NOW =)
- The trays are too thin, bulky make up (like those bases on bottles) wouldn't fit.
- The bottom tray could only fit around 4-5 palettes only.

Overall:
- It's a good start up train case. I even brought my friend after a couple of days and she purchased one too. If your on a very tight budget like me, this will be sturdy enough to help you on your make up gigs but kind for your budget as well. It may not fit you're entire make up collection but it is enough to accommodate the one's you'll be needing for a decent make over.

HOW I: Clean my false eyelashes

False Eyelashes add length and volume to your natural lashes without having to use clumpy-hard-to-remove mascara. At the same time, these items should be cleaned and stored properly after every use since, the lash glue and make up debris can turn it into a breeding ground for bacteria.

What you need:
Make up remover (Koh Gen Do)
Alcohol
Clean Mascara Wand/brush
Paper Towel/ Tissue
Tweezers (Marionaud)
Eyelash Curler (Forever 21)
Cotton swab

Step 1:  Using a  cotton swab dipped with make up remover loosen the make up debris and lash glue that was clumped on your falsies (See how dirty these lashes get?)

Step 2: With the aid of tweezers, pull out carefully the excess glue that cannot be removed by the first step.

Step 3: Dip your falsies in alcohol and brush it with a clean mascara wand to loosen more dirt and excess make up and glue.

Step 4: Curl it back in shape and place it back to it's container.

There you have it! Clean falsies in less than 10 minutes! See the difference?

I'd love to hear how you clean your falsies just comment away. I hope this helped!

The Look: Miss Tangerine

After coming home from a department store make up haul I tested the products I bought, and then one thing led to another. So, since it is SUMMER already here in the Philippines, I made a look inspired by (drum roll please..) what else but the beautiful sunsets we have here. I have been meaning to make a video tutorial for this one, but since I am still starting with this whole blog thing (and I am still learning the ropes) I think this post will do for now.

For the Face:
Olay Touch of Foundation
Ever Bilena Advance concealer in Velvet Nude
Maybeline Clear Smooth Face Powder in Honey
e.l.f. Contouring Blush and Bronzing Powder

For the Eyes:
Ellana Mineral Primer
DuWop doubleglow 7
Etude House Drawing Eyebrow Pencil
IN2IT Waterproof Eyebrow Colour
BH Cosmetics 120 Color Eyeshadow Palette (1st ed.)
BH Cosmetics Gel Liner in Onyx
Maybeline's Volume Express Mascara

For the Lips:
Carmex Moisturizing Lip Balm
NYX Round Lipstick Orange Soda
BH Cosmetics 120 Color Eyeshadow Palette (1st ed.)

THE STEPS:
1. Apply a dot like amount of Olay Total Effect's w/ Touch of foundation on the face followed by Ever Bilena's Advance concealer on the under eye area and on places where there is a need for concealing.
2. Put Ellana's Mineral Primer on the eye lids.
3.While allowing your skin to absorb the primer do your brow's by shaping them with Etude house's Drawing pencil and shading it with IN2IT's eyebrow colour. Use DuWop's doubleglow 7 to highlight the lower brow line. (any highlighter/ shimmer eyeshadow will work too)
4. Apply a matte yellow eye shadow on the inner lids of the eye up to the inner half. Use a matte orange color for the outer half and a red orange shade for the crease then blend to your heart's content.
5. Line the eyes with a a black gel liner on top. With the use of the yellow eyeshadow, line it also at the bottom.
6. Highlight the cheeks (e.l.f. Contouring blush & bronzing powder) define the jaw line by contouring it with a decent bronzer.
7. Apply lip balm on the lips to soften it and swipe on your favorite Nude Lip shade. (NYX Orange Soda) Dab your matte orange eyeshadow and VOILA! You already get the look of MISS TANGERINE!

Feel free to ask and comment away. This is my first blog post so show some love! =)
